Dr. med. Jana Nätlitz

Jana Nätlitz studied Human Medicine at the University Hospital Lübeck and completed her doctoral degree in experimental dermatology alongside her studies, working with Ralf Paus and graduating summa cum laude. She developed an early enthusiasm for mitochondria and basic research in the skin. To deepen her expertise, she moved to the University Hospital Cologne as a PostDoc in 2012, where she also began her residency in dermatology in 2014, completing it in 2018. Subsequently, she worked as both a specialist physician and a Clinician Scientist, equally engaged in clinical practice and laboratory research, supported by funding from the SFB 829 Collaborative Research Centre, the Else-Kröner Research College, and most recently, a habilitation stipend from the Köln Fortune program.

Since March 2025, she has been working as a Senior Physician at the Center for Skin Diseases at the University Hospital Bonn. Her clinical focus lies on chronic inflammatory skin diseases, autoimmune dermatoses, and cutaneous Graft-versus-Host Disease.

Her research group investigates the impact of mitochondrial damage and other metabolic processes on skin homeostasis. The goal is to better understand the role of mitochondria and cellular metabolism in the formation of the epidermal skin barrier, as well as in inflammation and fibrosis development in the skin, in order to prevent pathological processes and therapeutically influence them.
